Constant-fill coupling combined with a soft starter

A new match is born! And it looks like a happy marriage.
In the transmission industry, the coupling + starter combination has often been badly considered: some people say it's like mixing oil and water, and that putting these devices together could have harmful consequences!

At Westcar we usually ignore popular rumours and base our solutions on proven LABORATORY TESTS: we analyse the data, carry out careful tests in different operating conditions, and only at this point do we pronounce the verdict.
In this case, in our quest for innovation, we were supported by a Partner of Excellence and, guess what? The results are astounding!

The combination 'Zero-slip hydraulic coupling + Soft starter', duly set with the proper parameters, gave results difficult to achieve with the two systems operating individually.

The tests were carried out on a test bench, applying our hydraulic coupling driven by an electric motor to the transmission line, and a load applied to simulate inertia.
The entire system was monitored by:
- two torque transducers and a 'PICO Oscilloscope' system to detect input and output torque, timing and engagement speed,
- a 'PICO Oscilloscope' system to monitor inrush and operating currents.

Data from the experiments

- increased starting times by up to 4 or 5 times,
- reduction of current consumption during starting below 3 times the motor rating,
- reduced stress on mechanical parts,
- energy efficiency when running due to zero slip of ROTOMEC couplings and properly set soft starters.

Experimenting is innovating, innovating is progressing.
