Westcar launches an organizational development program inspired by Lean Production

On Monday, September 14, Westcar launched a new phase of its organizational development journey at its Solbiate Olona headquarters, with a meeting dedicated to the Simplicity Method. The project originates within the company but is strongly market-oriented: its goal is to improve speed, accuracy, and reliability in responding to the needs of customers and partners in Italy and abroad.

A more integrated organization

Over the coming months, Westcar will focus on activities, responsibilities, skills, and relationships between departments, involving engineering, production, purchasing, sales, and support services. The aim is to ensure that information and responsibilities flow clearly and in a coordinated manner throughout the organization.

The expected benefits will extend across the entire value chain: faster decision-making, fewer unnecessary steps, better planning, a greater ability to anticipate critical issues, and stronger continuity between engineering, production, and the management of customer requirements.

The Lean approach

The program is inspired by the principles of Lean Production, an organizational model focused on customer value and the continuous improvement of processes. It involves analyzing how work is carried out and addressing inefficiencies, redundancies, waiting times, and unnecessary steps that slow down operations.

The main areas of focus include:

  • greater integration between engineering, production, purchasing, and sales
  • clear and shared processes
  • reduced lead times and fewer low-value-added activities
  • more effective priority management
  • improved responsiveness to market requirements
  • quality and continuous improvement

Benefits for customers and partners

For customers, the program is designed to provide more effective support throughout the entire process: from needs analysis to engineering, from production to delivery, through to sales support and after-sales service.

For partners and suppliers, it will promote a more integrated organization, with shared processes, clearly defined responsibilities, and greater visibility of common objectives.

Corporate culture and benchmarking

The meeting also addressed topics such as corporate culture, collaboration, and benchmarking. Improvement starts with a clear understanding of the organization itself: how people work together, how decisions are made, and how information flows, as well as through comparison with market best practices.

Benchmarking helps identify new opportunities for improvement, in line with the principles of continuous improvement.

Part of a broader development journey

The organizational project is part of a broader development program that includes new facilities, investments in people and training, expertise, and increased production and organizational capacity.

Growth in both Italian and international markets requires processes capable of supporting higher volumes and greater complexity.
